Globetrotting expert on the politics of international finance

David is an expert on international political, economic and monetary issues. He is co-founder of the Official Monetary & Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF), an independent think tank for central banking, economic policy and public investment. A Visiting Professor at The Policy Institute, Kings College London and also the Department of Politics at Sheffield University, David is a founder of the German-British Forum; the civil-society hub for British-German relations in the UK.

Between 1978 and 1995 David worked for the Financial Times in France and Germany, and later as European Editor. He is a frequent commentator on UK and international media forums, for example writing for The Wall Street Journal’s MarketWatch and the German newspaper Handelsblatt.  

David has written six books including his most recent publication: Can Europe Survive? The Story of a Continent in a Fractured World (2025). His books have been translated into German, Dutch, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

In 2000 David was made a Commander of the British Empire for his services to Anglo-German relations and was awarded the German Order of Merit in 2003.
