Duncan Green is a leader in the field of international development. For 20 years he was Head of Research and Strategic Adviser at Oxfam GB before taking up his current position.

Duncan is Professor in Practice in International Development at the London School of Economics and Director of the LSE’s Activism, Influence and Change programme.  Formerly he was a Senior Policy Adviser on Trade and Development at the UK’s Department for International Development, a Policy Analyst on trade and globalisation at CAFOD – the Catholic aid agency for England and Wales – and Head of Research and Engagement at the Just Pensions project on socially responsible investment.

He has authored seven books on different aspects of activism, international development and humanitarianism, including the 2nd edition of How Change Happens (2024), which focuses on activism, influencing and advocacy, with case studies from around the world, including fragile democracies and autocracies. It includes a framework commonly used by International NGOs to design influencing strategies. 

Duncan is on several advisory boards, regularly writes, podcasts and consults on aspects of humanitarian and development influencing and practice.
